Mein persönlicher Favorit ist der hier – starring Alex und der verrückte Islamlist, mit Iso in einer Nebenrolle.
Aber da sind noch mehr – viel Spaß!

Die Partei ist schon ein Knaller.

Nicht, dass man die ernsthaft wählen kann – hmm, oder doch?! Kann’s denn schlimmer kommen, als mit all den anderen Gangstern, Meineidleistern, Veruntreuern, Machtgeiern, Versprechen-Brechern und sich-selbst-die-Taschen-Vollstopfern, die sonst so zur Wahl stehen? Besser als die extremen Rechten und Linken, die doch beide nur ihre Ideologie durchsetzen, und eine der beiden inhumanen, totaliären Staatsformen, die wir hier im letzten Jahrhundert gesehen haben, wieder aufbauen wollen, ist die Partei allemal.

Und: wer die Leute so zum Lachen bringen kann, kann doch nicht böse sein?!

Naja, eine andere Alternative gibt’s schon noch, darüber später mehr…

no sound from the speakers of your T60/x60? Turn on the Modem!!!

Not sure who’s fault this strange problem is, but it is realy hard to catch, and I fiddled and googled quite some time for it…

For one, when playing sound on the command line, I’ve got

ALSA lib pcm_direct.c:867snd_pcm_direct_initialize_slave) snd_pcm_hw_params_any failed
ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:876snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to initialize slave
aplay: main:545: audio open error: Invalid argument

and xmms said something about the audio device not available.
Googling for others who had this problem, too, I only found things like this (which, in the meantime also contains a post of mine pointing to the real solution, but at that time didn’t).
Only when I figured to look up some errors in dmesg output, namely

hda_intel: azx_get_response timeout, switching to polling mode…hda_intel: azx_get_response timeout, switching to single_cmd mode…

and googled for this, I finally found a solution… you have to enable the MODEM on a (t60, X60, and others…) thinkpad, to get sound out of your SPEAKERS!!!

Sounds clearly logical… to someone with a twisted brain…
If this is not a drover bug, the BIOS should warn peopl to remind them, if the switch the modem to “hidden”, they won’t be able to listen to music, too.

FOSDEM talk about virtualization in Debian

So, my proposal for a talk about virtualization in Debian has been accepted, and I will be giving an update about the state of the different technologies (at least, the most important, coolest, and newest ones) in Debian – this will happen in the Debian DevRoom.

So, basically this will be a follow up on my talk at last years DebConf. (I just happen to see, the PDF available for download there is missing it’s ending, as well as a decent mime type (probably as a result to this) – yoiu should be able to download it, and save it as a .pdf file… until I managed to get these things uploaded to my wiki…

Debian Packages that Need Lovin’

I like this idea, announced here and on the debian-devel-announce Mailing list.

If you’re using Debian or one of it’s many derivates, and ever thought about giving some bits back to the community (which you really should be thinking about), but never knew where to get started, now theres a new web interface to search for packages that need work – or, as the application says, “Debian Packages that Need Lovin“

This information has always been there, I belive, but hidden somehwere in the depths of the Debian Bug Tracking System.
Now, everybody interesting in helping with Debian, can get started easily.

My personal favorite of the day is the R(equest)F(or)P(ackaging) Google’s Android SDK – let’s see if I can get something done there – even if I have no idea where to find the time to get started

Gemeinnützige Web2.0 Community

Nach massenhaften Skandalen um die Datensicherheit bei StudiVZ haben einige Leute nun eine gemeinnützige GmbH gegründet, die die Entwicklung einer freien Web2.0 Community
finanziert, die neulich gelaunched wurde: Kaioo

Und es gibt auch ein herrliches Werbevideo.

Maven: Verbesserungen in Sicht!

Kaum haben wir auf der JUGHH Mailing Liste und hier ein bisschen drüber diskutiert, kommt da jemand, und hat sich vorgenommen, mit den nervigen Dingen bei Maven aufzuräumen – statt wie ich, zugegebenermaßen, nur rumzujammern…. Gefunden über Herrn Raible.

Statt auf der faulen Haut zu liegen, sollte ich wohl mal sehen, wie ich helfen kann…

Playin’ around with Mozilla Sunbird/Lightning

The day before, I thought I found a nice solution in my search for a nice PIM application: Mozilla Lightning, the PIM plugin for Thunderbird.

Had to install the latest version of thunderbird, as the Debian version didn’t accept the lightning plugin, and at a first glance, it looked fine.

But there were some problems:

• No anti-aliased fonts in Mail view. Switched to non-serif fonts to get a somewhat better sight. Not perfect, but acceptable, if the app would do what I want.
• GUI redrawing problems in the task view of lightning. Adding Items, and they did not appear until the screen was redrawn when I switched into another view and back again. Odd.
• export from evolution / import into lighting did not work with my data. The export from Evolution seems not to be 100% correct, at least also importing it into the zimbra system of the company I work at didn’t succeed, too. Only Google calendar could understand the stuff, so I imported the stuff there, and exported it again – that export was understood by Lightning and accepted.

Apart from that, it looked nice and I thought I had something to work with and was happy.

But then, today when I started up thunderbird, something strange had happened: I use folders with subfolders on IMAP, to get my stuff sorted, and that works quite nice. Most of the time. Only, my folder for mailing lists, that I have at GMX, suddenly did not show any subfolders any more. In fact, it was the only folder with subfolders, where they did disappear. All others seem to be fine, and I could swear, yesterday they were there.
Today, they weren’t, and testing with the older thunderbird, included in Debian, made it show up again, but whatever I did, the new thundebird didn’t show them.

Showstopper – I have to go report some bugs, and keep using my thunderbird (for mail, as I dislike Evolutions mail functions) and Evolution – for Calendar and tasks, as this is not available in a working version of thunderbird – yet.

I can’t wait to see a working version of the stuff…

Java Build-Tools – Erfahrungen und Eindrücke zu Maven und Ant

Aus aktuellen Anlass – siehe Thread “Ansätze zu Projekt-Strukturen” bei der JugHH – habe ich mal ein paar Eindrücke, die ich so vom Einsatz der beiden beliebtesten Build-Tools habe, notiert.

Sicherlich unvollständig und subjektiv – aber teilweise von Team-Kollegen aus Projekten bestätigt.
Und klar, es gibt für alles eine (mehr oder weniger aufwändige) Abhilfe – aber wieso kein Tool, das “out of the Box” nur die positiven Eigenschaften der beiden Dinger verbindet?

Ich bin an Kommentaren interessiert, an den Erfahrungen anderer, und kann auf Nachfrage natürlich einzelne Punkte erläutern…

Ant:

• Guter und stabiler IDE Support(insbesondere Eclipse)
• relativ leicht erweiterbar durch Python-Scripting (kann nervig werden und schwer zu debuggen) und Schreiben eigener Tasks (ist dann ein bisschen mehr Aufwand
• Eigentlich alle Funktionen gut und umfangreich dokumentiert. Frei und online, und als Printversion.
• Erfordert keine weitere Infrastruktur
• Die genutzten Bibliotheken sind ganz klar und fest definiert – dafür hat man, wenn man in einer Firma mehrere Java-Projekte hat, halt auch viele Redundanzen und Binaries im SCM.
• Volle Flexibilität – man muss aber auch alles selbst machen – man kann natürlich Vorlagen entwickeln und nutzen – aber die kommen auch nicht von selbst
• Von Projekt zu Projekt unterschiedlich aussehende Projektverzeichnisse
• Ist aber auch eine Frage der Disziplin. Und Evolution und Weiterentwicklung will man ja auch nicht verbieten.
• Build-Files werden sehr komplex – man kann sie aber auch gut strukturieren und regelmäßiges Refactoring ansetzen

Maven:

• Eclipse Support eher so la la – andereseits – was geht, das geht. Aber das Maven 1 Plugin war irgendwie besser, hatte auch Eingabehilfen für die ganzen Projekteigenschaften, die man jetzt alle im XML händisch eingeben muss. Das von vielen genutzte MyEclipse unterstützt es (bis zum letzten mal, als ich reingeschaut habe) auch noch nicht
• Saubere Projektstruktur vorgegeben – aber: wo ist mein “doc” Verzeichnis mit README.txt und anderen wichtigen, schnell zugreifbaren Infos in Plaintext – stattdessen gibt’s src/site/resources/…
  Und woher wissen die Maven Entwickler, was für mich das Beste ist?
• Viele wichtige Funkionen für den Build-Zyklus mitgeliefert – will man diese aber anpassen, geht dies teilweise nur, wenn der Plugin-Entwickler das vorgesehen hat – wenn nicht, muss man schon etwas tiefer einsteigen.
• Doku für das Tool selbst und die Plugins nicht so umfangreich und gut wie bei Ant. Und: gibt es ein(gutes und aktuelles) Buch in Druckform? Wie viele davon?
• Will man genau kontrollieren, welche Bibliotheken man für das ganze Projekt nutzt (zum Beispiel verhindern, irgendwelche Snapshots und Alpha-Versionen zu nutzen), hat man einiges zu tun.
• Auschecken und sofort geht nur, wenn man Internet hat, oder einen kompletten Mirror aller wichtigen/genutzten Maven Repositories(und auch oder gerade bei großen Firmen gibt es manchmal Probleme, “mal eben” einige GB und einen Server für einen Mirror zu bekommen.

“Fazit”(falls man es so nennen kann): optimal ist irgendwie keines von beiden, und daher wird mir beim nächsten Mal, wenn ich mich für eines entscheiden muss beim Aufsetzen eines neuen Projektes, die Entscheidung nicht gerade leicht fallen.
